National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) vide Notification dated 23rd August, 2010 and 29th JULY, 2011 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII. It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools referred to in Clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with the Guidelines framed by the NCTE.
The CTET test will be conducted in 20 languages in 92 cities all over the country. The online registration link will be activated on the CBSE official website - ctet.nic.in.
The information bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, languages, eligibility criteria, examination fee, examination cities and important dates will be available on CTET official website www.ctet.nic.in from Wednesday.
Aspiring candidates can download the bulletin from the website to read the same carefully before applying online through the CTET website.
The online application process will start from Wednesday and the deadline for submitting online applications is August 27. Fee can be paid until August 30 before 3.30 pm.
The CBSE Notification reads: "The Central Board of Secondary Education has started inviting online application for conduct of the 11th edition of Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2018. The test will be conducted in twenty languages in 92 cities all over the country.
The detailed Information Bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, languages eligibility criteria, examination fee, examination cities and important dates will be available on CTET official website www.ctet.nic.in w.e.f. 01-08-2018 and the aspiring candidates are requested to download the Information Bulletin from above mentioned website only and read the same carefully before applying.

The rationale for including the TET as a minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher is as under:
- It would bring national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process;
- It would induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards;
- It would send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the Government lays special emphasis on teacher quality
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi.
